HIS WIFE ALICE GREEN (1871-1948) LIVED AT 144 , BEAN STREET, HULL, WITH THEIR FOUR CHILDREN. ARTHUR SERVED AS A TRAWLER ENGINEMAN. HE WAS LOST ON THE MINESWEEPER, ‘KING EMPEROR’, ON 04/02/1916, AGED 44, WHEN THE SHIP COLLIDED OFF SHEERNESS. HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, AND ON THE MARFLEET WW1 MEMORIAL, HULL. HE IS ALSO RECORDED ON THE BEAN STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (Hull Daily Mail 11 October 1916).
On February 4th, 1916, the British steamer HMT KING EMPEROR, built in 1914 and operated by British Royal Navy, was lost after a collision. 8 people lost their lives. (The KING EMPEROR was lifted and back in service, even served in WWII.)
