BORN PRESTON, HULL, 1892. SON OF MARY JANE LOADES & THE LATE WALLIS GREEN (1845-1910), AT 8 , TYNE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 64, HUNTINGDON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). BEFORE ENLISTING, HE WORKED AT SEA IN THE MERCHANT NAVY AND IN MUNITIONS. EMPLOYED AS A SHELL TURNER FOR MESSRS. AMOS & SMITH LTD. ENGINEERS, AT HULL’S ALBERT DOCK. HE LIVED AT 129 ST GEORGES ROAD, HULL AND WAS ASSOCIATED WITH ST GEORHGES PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 26/01/1916, AGED 24 YEARS AND 17 DAYS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 4.5 INCHES TALL. 121 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST AND ‘GOOD’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 5596, 6TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 07/07/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1/4TH (HALLAMSHIRE) YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT. WOUNDED BY GAS, ON 07/09/1916. REJOINED HIS UNIT, ON 14/12/1916. WOUNDED AGAIN ON 17/07/1917. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 24/07/1917, AGED 24. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON O2/08/1917. *
UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, MARY JANE. HE LEFT BROTHERS, WALLIS, RONALD, HENRY AND ARTHUR GREEN, SISTERS, CAROLINE, EMILY, MARY JANE, LAURA, ELIZA AND ADA. ALSO A LARGE NUMBER OF AUNTS AND UNCLES IN THE HESSLE ROAD AREA. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS. TWO IN THE NAVY AND ONE IN THE ARMY. THE ONE IN THE ARMY WAS LYING SERIOUSLY WOUNDED IN HOSPITAL.
HE IS BURIED AT COXYDE MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “FOR EVER IN REMEMBRANCE FROM MOTHER, BROTHERS AND SISTERS”
