BORN HULL 1894. THIRD SON OF FRANK GRESHAM (1862-1940) & HELENA PITCHFORD DYSON (1866-1931), OF 63 TRINITY ROAD, BRIDLINGTON AND 32, WESTBOURNE AVENUE, HULL. ONE OF FIVE BROTHERS AND THREE SONS KILLED IN THE WAR. EDUCATED AT HULL, HYMERS COLLEGE.
SON OF A TIMBER MERCHANT. HE WORKED AS A MERCHANT’S CLERK BEFORE THE WAR.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, BEFORE HIS COMMISSION, IN THE EAST RIDING YEOMANRY, IN JULY 1915. HE WAS POSTED TO EGYPT, ON 9TH JANUARY 1917. KILLED WHEN A TURKISH PLANE, BOMBED A MILITARY HOSPITAL, WHERE HE WAS A PATIENT. DIED OF WOUNDS. ON 07/05/1917, AGED 22.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE HYMERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL AND THE HORNSEA WW1 MEMORIAL. TWO OTHER BROTHERS, JOHN AND GORDON GRESHAM DIED IN THE WAR.
HE IS BURIED AT KANTARA WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY, EGYPT.
