Born Hull 1895. Eldest son of Charles Frederick Grosneckand Elizabeth Grosneck, of 3 Princes Avenue, Hull. One of five children. His father was a German born seaman and fisherman, living Hull. He served as Merchant Navy, coal trimmer, on the Grimsby trawler, “Andronmarche”. Lost at sea, on 12/04/1917, aged 21. His name is recorded in the Lost Trawlermen of Hull Records.
The British trawler Andromache was on her way back from the fishing grounds of Iceland, when on April 14th 1917, she was stopped west of the Shetlands by the German submarine U-78 (Otto Dröscher). The master was taken prisoner and the crew of 11 ordered to the lifeboats. She was then scuttled and sunk. Nothing was ever heard of the lifeboats.
