BORN HULL 1893. SON OF ALLAN TWISTLETON HALL, (1862-1962) & CORDELIA BESWICK SISSONS (1867-1965), OF KIRK ELLA, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS A COMPANY DIRECTOR AND JUSTICE OF THE PEACE, AT KIRKELLA. HE HAD ONE YOUNGER BROTHER, BRYAN BESWICK HALL (1900-1949) AND THREE SISTERS, CORDELIA, RUTH AND ELFRIDA ANN HALL. HE WAS THE GRANDSON OF MR THOMAS HALL, OF SISSONS LTD, HULL AND J.P. OF KIRKELLA. HE WAS EDUCATED AT HYMERS AND UPPINGHAM SCHOOLS.
HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 1006 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. COMMISSIONED ON 12/11/1914. SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. KILLED AT OPPY WOOD, ON 03/05/1917, AGED 23. COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL.
HE LEFT £4,133 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, CORDELIA AND SISTER RUTH.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON HULL’S HYMERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL AND COMMORATED ON THE FAMILY GRAVE, AT KIRKELLA (Wooden Celtic cross on two stepped base (cross now recumbent) within a kerbed double grave space. with inscription, “Allan Bernard Hall dearly loved Son of Allan and Cordelia Hall killed in action May 3rd 1917 aged 23 years”.
Lieutenant, Allan Bernard Hall served in the Army Cyclist Corp, East Yorkshire, 11th Battalion. Allan was born in June 1893 and died 3rd May 1917. In 1901 Allan lived in Kirk Ella and in between 1905 and 1912 he lodged at Uppingham School – Beaumont Chase and Uppingham, Rutland. Uppingham School is a co-educational independent school situated in the small market town of Uppingham in Rutland, England. The school was founded in 1584 by Robert Johnson, the Archdeacon of Leicester who also established Oakham School. He gain his colours in cricket and football and was elected as a Uppingham Rover. He joined his father in business working for Messrs Sissons & Co, where he celebrated his 21st Birthday two months before war was declared. He enlisted in the Hull Pals immediately when war began. Served in Egypt and France, with the 11th East Yorkshire Regiment. Commissioned into the same Regiment, he was killed at Oppy Wood, leading his company. Missing he was officially reported as killed on the 3rd May 1917, aged 23. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
