BORN HULL 20/O8/1894. ONLY SON OF THE LATE THOMAS HALLER (1851-1912) AND LAURA DENISON (1851-1934), OF “BURNSIDE”, NEWLAND PARK, HULL (ARMY RECORD ADDRESS). HE HAD FOUR SISTERS. SON OF A BOOT AND SHOE MERCHANT. EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. PRIOR TO ENLISTING, HE MANAGED HIS FATHER’S SHOE BUSINESS, MESSR, T. HALLER & SON, IN HULL’S, MARKET PLACE.

HIS EARLY AVIATION TRAINING WAS RECEIVED AT THE NORTHERN FLYING SCHOOL. HE LATER JOINED THE ROYAL FLYING CORPS (RFC), AT THE CENTRAL FLYING SCHOOL, UPAVON, WHERE HE GAINED HIS ‘WINGS’. WHILST AT UPAVON, HE WAS HIGHLY COMMENDED FOR HIS FLYING SKILLS, MAKING SCORES OF FLIGHT WITHOUT A SINGLE BAD LANDING. HOWEVER, ON HIS EARLIEST FLIGHTS IN FRANCE, HE WAS ATTACKED BY FOUR GERMAN PLANES AND SEEN TO FALL BEHIND ENEMY LINES. HE WAS REPORTED MISSING AND LATER KILLED ON 03/06/1917, AGED 23. HIS MOTHER APPEALED FOR INFORMATION ABOUT HIM (HDM 14/06/1917).

HE IS LISTED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON THE 3RD JULY 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
