Hansell, Walter Henry

Born St. Mark’s, Norwich, 1888. Son of George and Mary Ann Hansell, of 38 Trafalgar St, Lakenham, Norwich (1911 Census). He was a railway Servant and Brewer’s Drayman. Described as % foot, 3.5 inches tall, 37 -40 inch chest, 131 lbs weight, grey eyes, light brown hair, Church of England religion.

Married at Rotherham in 1911. Husband of Annie Elizabeth Lambert, of 61, New George Street, Hull (Army records address) and 32, New Garden Street, Hull. They had three children, Doris Walter and George.

Enlisted at Rotherham. on 5/9/1914. Posted to France on 27/8/1915. Served in the 9th York and Lancaster Regiment. Killed on 1st July 1916, Buried Blighty Valley Cemetery, on the Somme, aged 27.

His widow was awarded weekly war pension of 20/6, on 5th May 1917. She married a Farm Labourer, Fred Carr, on 20/12/1917 and moved to 9, Castle Street, Leeds (War Pension records)
