ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 10/08/1914, WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. SERVED AS A BUGLER IN THE 2ND COLDSTREAM GUARDS. WOUNDED NEAR YPRES, ON 26/10/1914. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON SUNDAY, 03/11/1914, AGED 20, AT NO:11 GENERAL HOSPITAL, BOULOGNE. UNMARRIED. HE LEFT HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, BROTHER FRED & SISTER IN LAW LILY. HIS DETAILS ARE RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 1.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL & LINCOLNSHIRE TIMES, ON 14/11/1914, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, AND AGAIN IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 21/08/1915. *
HE IS BURIED AT BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE SLEEPS WITH ENGLAND’S HEROES IN THE WATCHFUL CARE OF GOD”.
