BORN HULL 1898. SON OF ANNIE HARDY AND THE LATE WALTER HARDY, AT 118, HODGSON STREET, HULL (HDM ADDRESS, 17/08/1915). HE WAS AN APPRENTICE, FOR ‘HANGER, WATSON AND HARRIS’, STONEFERRY. HE ENLISTED SEPTEMBER 1914 AS A BUGLER. HE HAD BEEN IN FRANCE FOR ONLY A MONTH BEFORE HE WAS HIT BY A SNIPER. HE DIED OF WOUNDS. AGED 17 AT ETAPLES HOSPITAL. HE LEFT A WIDOWED MOTHER, WITH HER SIX CHILDREN, INCLUDING HIS FOUR SISTERS. HIS GRANDFATHER, MR T STEVENSON, WAS A HULL POLICEMAN FOR 29 YEARS. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 17TH AUGUST 1915. *
