BORN HULL 1882. ONLY CHILD OF THE LATE WILLIAM HARE & EMILY TOPHAM (1863-1889). HIS MOTHER DIED WHEN HE WAS SEVEN YEARS OLD. RAISED BY HIS GRANDMOTHER, ANN ELIZABETH TOPHAM, AT 6, QUAKERS COURT, KIMBERLEY STREET, HULL AND 1, HEMBOROUGH BUILDINGS, NEW GEORGE STREET, HULL.

HIS UNOFFICIAL WIFE WAS SARAH WYNNE, LIVING AT 62, NORTH STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). A RULLYMAN. HIS ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS WAS 6, MIDDLE STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 23/06/1916, AGED 34 YEARS AND 90 DAYS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 10 INCHES TALL, 135 LBS WEIGHT, 36 INCH CHEST, AND GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 22/12/1916. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 25668, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WOUNDED IN THE FACE ON 01/06/1917. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 11/04/1918, AGED 36. COMMEMORATED ON THE PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, BELGIUM. HE HAD SERVED FOR 1 YEAR AND 293 DAYS.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO MRS MARIA HARE, AT 76, GOODWIN STREET, HULL. HIS WIDOW, SARAH WYNNE AT 62, NORTH STREET, HULL, RECEIVED HIS WAR PENSION.
