Born Appleby, Lincolnshire, 1869. When Amaziah Harrison was born, his father, Henry (1825-1898), was 45 and his mother, Elizabeth (1824-1909), was 46. Son of an Agricultural Labourer, He had two brothers, Andrew and Frederick and one sister, Sarah
He married Eliza Jane Peart (1873-1918), at Lincoln Primitive Chapel, on December 1, 1898. They had one daughter during their marriage, Annie Bessie Harrison, born 1st Feb, 1904.
The family lived at 5, Kensington Grove, Granville Street, Hull (War Pension address).
A former Tailor. He joined the army of 5th July 1890, aged 21. Served as Private, 3475, Oxford Buckinghamshire Regiment, on the North West Frontier, India, Burma and in the South African war. Wounded in the head at Passdeburgh, on 18th February, 1900. Awarded several Campaign Medals. He became a Time expired Soldier, on 29/07/1902.
He was employed as the Town Hall Beadle, for the Hull Corporation. His army records described him, as 5 foot, 6.5 inches tall, 130 lbs weight, 35-36.5 inch chest, fresh complexion, grey eyes, balding, Church of England Religion, tattoo on ring finger of his left hand/scar on his right eyebrow, “Very Good” Character.
He enlisted on 08/09/1914 at Hull. Promoted to Sergeant, on 21/10/1914. Serving in the Ox & Bucks Light Infantry. Was aa army Gym instructor and worked in the recruitment Offices. Discharged from the army, with over exertion, on 12/08/1916, after serving 1 year and 158 days in the army. He did not serve overseas. Reported as 100% incapacitated, on 11th July 1917.
He cut his throat, while insane, on 20/06/1918 (war aggravated). His army pension was cancelled. His wife died soon after, on 24th September 1918.
Their orphaned daughter, Annie was looked after, by Guardian, Mr Albert Fitton, of the Municipal School of Art, Anlaby Road, Hull (see War pension records).
His death was reported in the Council Property Committee Minutes, the following day of his death, on 21/06/1918 (Page 128).
His brother Frederick as also a former soldier with the Norfolk Regiment.
