BORN NOTTS 1885. SON OF JAMES JUNIPER HASTINGS (1852-1931) & ELLEN RAYNES BROWN (1853-1906), OF MISTERTON, NOTTS. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. FOR TEN YEARS, HE WAS SECRETARY, OF THE QUEENS HALL CHAPEL, ALFRED GELDER STREET, HULL. HE DEVOTED A LARGE PART OF HIS LIFE TO THE WELFARE OF THE CHAPEL. HE MARRIED AT THE WESLYEAN CHAPEL, COLCHESTER, ON 19/06/1913. HUSBAND OF ADA ELIZABETH BROWN & BABY JOAN (BORN 19/05/1916). THEY LIVED AT 27 FARADAY STREET, CEYLON STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS)
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 18/08/1916. DESCRIDED AS 5 FOOT, 7.5 INCHES TALL, 34.5 INCH CHEST SIZE. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 23/01/1917. SERVED AS A BOMBARDIER, IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. HE DIED OF WOUNDS AT NO:2 CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, ON 22/10/1917, AGED 32. HE IS BURIED IN BELGIUM.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 29/10/1917. * ALL HIS BROTHERS SERVED IN THE WAR. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, WHO MOVED TO 4 VICARAGE ROAD, CROMER, NORFOLK.
