SON OF JOHN WILLIAM HAWKSLEY (1864-1926) & FANNY FOSTER PETCH (1849-1923), OF 1 SUSANS TERRACE, GOODWIN STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS), 5, THORNTON TERRACE, WALKER STREET, HULL AND 2, DUMBARTON AVENUE, CLYDE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. WORKED AS A DOCK LAOURER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 125 LBS WEIGHT, 35-37 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR, TATTOO ON RIGHT FOREARM, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.

ENLISTED HULL, ON 2ND SEPT 1914. FORMERLY, 10676, DRAGOONS. POSTED TO EGYPT, ON 28TH AUGUST 1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH WEST RIDING REGIMENT, ON 15TH JUNE 1915. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 3RD JULY 1916. DIED OF LEG AND FOOT WOUNDS, ON 29/01/1917, AGED 27. BURIED AT ETAPLES, FRANCE. HE SERVED FOR 2 YEARS AND 150 DAYS.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, FANNY.

HIS BROTHER, ARTHUR HAWKSLEY, 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 20/10/1914.
