BORN LEEDS 1890, BUT LIVED IN HULL. SON OF THOMAS AND SARAH HENDERSON, LEEDS. MARRIED AMELIA HARRISON IN HULL 1911. WORKED AS A FARMER. ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. KILLED IN ACTION 13/11/1916.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE HARRY HENDERSON 12/802. Born in Leeds, Harry married Amelia Harrison in Hull in the early part of 1911. That’s about as far as I can definitively trace him prior to his enlistment in the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment in October 1914. He was resident in Hull at this point and trained with the Pals throughout 1915 before arriving in France via a posting in Egypt over the winter of 1915-16. Harry was killed in action on the Somme on 13th November 1916 and his body never recovered. His name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to all those who lost their lives in that sector but who have no known grave.
