BORN HULL 1882. SON OF JANET HESSLEWOOD, AT 132 ENGLISH STREET, HULL.
HE MARRIED MAUD MAY LEAD, ON 07/02/1906, AT ST THOMAS CHURCH, HULL. THEY HAD FOUR CHILDREN, LIVING AT 34 AIRLIE STREET (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 48 WHARNCLIFFE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
A LABOURER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7.5 INCHES TALL, 154 LBS WEIGHT, AND 37 INCH CHEST.
HE ENLISTED IN THE 13TH HULL PALS, ON THE 08/12/1914, AGED 33 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS. SERVED IN EGYPT, FRANCE AND FLANDERS. HIS YOUNG SON CHARLES ACCIDENTALLY DIED IN A HOUSE FIRE IN HULL, WHILE PLAYING WITH MATCHES, ON 29/05/1915, AGED 23 MONTHS.
HE WAS PROMOTED TO CORPORAL IN THE FILED ON 16/09/1916. ACCIDENTALLY WOUNDED IN THE TRENCHES, ON THE 11/05/1917, WHEN A GRENADE MISS-FIRED. HE WAS CLEARED OF ANY SELF-INFLICTED WOUND. HE DIED OF WOUNDS TO THE THIGH AND ABDOMEN, ON 05/09/1918, AGED 36. HE HAD SERVED FOR 3 YEARS AND 272 DAYS.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS WIDOW MAUD, WHO MOVED TO 48 WHARNCLIFFE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE ALSO LEFT AN OLDER BROTHER.
HE WAS THE BROTHER-IN-LAW OF PERCY REDHEAD, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/10/1914. (HDM 29/10/1918).
