BORN HULL 18/01/1879. SECOND SON OF FRANCIS & MARY JANE (HACKETT), OF “CLANTARF”, 14 RYDE STREET, HULL, (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF NINE CHILDREN.
HE JOINED THE ROYAL NAVY, ON 19/03/1894. LEFT THE NAVAL SERVICE, ON 14/03/1899. BECAME A SOLICITOR’S CLERK.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. JOINING THE 11TH EYR. TRANSFERRED TO THE 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. PROMOTED SERGEANT. AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL. ACCIDENTALLY KILLED AT RIPON, YORKSHIRE. DIED ON 10/10/1918, AGED 40. BURIED AT HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHNS CHURCH, NEWLAND, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL.
