BORN PETERBOROUGH, 15/03/1866. WIFE MARY HILLAM, LIVED AT 46 LIVERPOOL STREET, HULL. SKIPPER OF THE TRAWLER, “NUMITOR”, SUNK BY A MINE ON 20/04/1918. HE LEFT £230 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS. THEIR SON, BOY 1ST CLASS, GEORGE HUGHES HILLAM, WAS LOST AT SEA, ON HMS “CORNWALLIS”, ON 25/04/1915, AGED 16

Numitor, built by Cochrane & Sons, Selby in 1903 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy (RNR manned), was a Belgian trawler, used as a British navy trawler of 242 tons. On April 20th, 1918, Numitor was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-4 (Ernst Berlin), off Orfordness. 5 persons were lost.
