BORN HULL 23/03/1898. ONLY SON OF JOHN HILLS & ANN ELIZABETH HILLS, OF 154 HAVELOCK STREET, HULL (1910), 106 DIVISION ROAD, HULL (1901 CENSUS) AND 230 ST GEORGES ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD SEVEN SISTERS. HE WAS SENT TO THE REFORM SCHOOL, AT WETHERBY, ON THE 15/07/1910, FOR “HABITUALLY WANDERING”. HE LEFT HOME AND WOULD SLEEP OUT OCCAISIONALLY. HE LEFT THE INSTITUTION, ON 22/03/1914 WITH CONDUCT SATISFACORY AND A VERY GOOD BOY”.
HE JOINED THE ARMY AND ENLISTED IN LEEDS SOON AFTER. PROMOTED TO LANCE CORPORAL IN THE 1ST SCOTS RIFLES. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/09/1917, AGED 19. COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.
UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ANN ELIZABETH.
