SS Sandhurst, built by Blyth Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Blyth in 1897 and owned at the time of her loss by Britain SS. Co. Ltd. (Watts, Watts & Co. Ltd.), London, was a British steamer of 3.034 tons. On May 6th, 1918, Sandhurst, on a voyage from Bilbao to Ardrossan with a cargo of iron ore, was sunk by the German submarine UB-72 (Friedrich Träger), 6 miles NWxW1/4W of Corsewall Point. 20 persons were lost. Allen Tony 10/03/2009 The steamship SANDHURST SS was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine UB-62 six miles N.W. by W.1/4 W. of Corsewall Point on May 6th, 1918 when on route from Bilbao to Ardrossan carrying a cargo of iron ore.
