BORN CHESHIRE 1893. SON OF JAMES BARNBY HOCKNEY (1866-1905) & CLARA MOXON (1871-1900), HIS FATHER MARRIED SUSANNAH WRIGHT AND LIVED AT  9, LILY GROVE, REGENT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HIS WIFE ANNIE HOCKNEY LIVED AT 9, ADA’S AVENUE, KIMBERLEY STREET, HULL. EMPLOYED AS A WOOD SAWYER.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL IN 1915. SERVED AS, PRIVATE, 85112, 36TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/09/1918, AGED 35.

HIS COMMANDING OFFICER, DESCRIBED HIM AS “A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION AND LIKED AND RESPECTED BY ALL HIS COMRADES.”

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 9TH OCTOBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT PONT-DU-HEM MILITARY CEMETERY, LA GORGUE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “AT REST”.
