BORN HULL 1886. SECOND SON OF HERBERT LACY HOLDERNESS & EMILY BLACKBURN OF 44 , ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL (CWGC AND PROBATE ADDRESS). WORKED FOR HIS FATHER AS A JOURNALIST FOR THE DRIFFIELD OBSERVER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 8 INCHES TALL, 33 INCH CHEST, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. VERY GOOD CHARACTER.

HE ENLISTED IN DRIFFIELD 13/08/1914. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 10/10/1915. SERVED IN THE 5TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. RETURNED HOME, 7/02/1916. DISCHARGED WITH TRENCH FEET, MUSCLE PAIN AND RHEUMATIC FEVER ON 8/02/1918.

BURIED HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY, AGED 31. LEFT £153 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER.
