Frank Lewis Holmes 1883-1917

BORN HULL 1893. THIRD SON OF HERBERT HENRY HOLMES (1867-1948) & CLARA HARRIET HARDING (1869-1934), OF 52, WYNDHAM STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD TEN BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. THREE BROTHERS SERVED IN THE WAR. FORMERLY A FISH SELLER FOR MESSRS. BRODRICK AND PETERS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A SERGEANT IN THE ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY. WAS KILLED IN THE MORNING ON 2ND MAY 1917, DURING A HEAVY AND SYSTEMATIC BOMBARDMENT. A SHELL HIT HIS DUGOUT, KILLING HIM AND THREE OTHERS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 25TH MAY 1917. *

HIGH STREET. HIS NAME APPEARS ON THE NORTHUMBERLAND AVENUE ROLL OF HONOUR.

UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, CLARA.
