Holmes, Mark Horace

BORN HULL 1895.  SON OF JOHN & ANNE HOLMES. OF 10 VICTORIA STREET, DERRINGHAM STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). BEFORE THE WAR, HE WORKED FOR FIVE YEARS WITH MESSRS, DEWHIRST, OF LONDESBOROUGH STREET, HULL AND MR LEWIS, OF HESSLE. HE WAS POPULAR IN LOCAL FOOTBALL CIRCLES, AND WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE BOURNE SUNDAY SCHOOL.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. SERVING WITH THE 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, AT ETAPLES, FRANCE, ON 25/06/1916, AGED 21.

HIS BROTHER,  CYRIL HOLMES, SERVED WITH THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY AND ALSO LIVED AT 10 VICTORIA STREET, DERRINGHAM STREET, HULL
