BORN HULL 20/06/1894. SECOND SON OF ANNIE QUEST (1871-1940) & THE LATE WILLIAM HENRY HOPPER (1868-1909), OF 144 COLTMAN STREET, HULL. HIS FATHER HAD DIED OF FEVER DURING THE SOUTH AFRICAN WAR. EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL AND AT LONDON UNIVERSITY, WHERE HE WAS A TUTOR.
HE ENLISTED IN THE 1ST PUBLIC SCHOOL BATALLION IN DECEMBER 1914. SERVED IN FRANCE FROM OCTOBER 1915. COMMISSIONED TO SECOND LIEUTENANT, ROYAL FLYING CORPS, IN AUGUST 1916. RETURNED TO FRANCE ON 10TH DECEMBER 1916. KILLED IN AN AERIAL ACCIDENT, ON 11TH JANUARY 1917, AGED 23. HE IS BURIED IN THE NEW EXTENSION CEMETERY, AUVIGNY. UNMARRIED. HE LEFT BROTHERS NORMAN AND HARRY HOPPERS, ALSO FOUR HALF SISTER, MARY, EDITH, EVA AND EMILY QUEST.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL WW1 MEMORIAL. ALSO IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 4.
