Born Dolgelly, Merionethshire, Wales, 1886. Son of John and Mary Ann Humphreys, of 3, Park Row, Market Hall, Dolgelly, Merionethshire, Wales. Son of a Joiner. He had one older brother – Evan Hugh Humphrey.
Described as 5 foot, 5.5 inches tall, 129 lbs weight 36-39 inch chest. He had been a Teacher for ten years, before becoming a Student at the Hull Training College.
He enlisted in Hull, on 12 Dec 1915, a few weeks before completing his training course. Mobilized on 1 March 1916. Served with the 21st The Royal Welsh (Welch) Fusiliers. Died after a few weeks service, of Tuberculosis, at the Bangor Military Hospital, on 19 April 1916, aged 26. He had been suffering from TB for six years, but passed the military examination and was accepted into the army. He was refused a pension because the disease was not contracted on active service. His father appealed to no avail. His army effects were left to his father, John.
He is buried at Dolgellau Cemetery, Merionethshire, Wales.
