BORN BEVERLEY, 27/09/1890. FIFTH SON OF ROBERT HUNSLEY (1855-1940) & LOUISA BELCHER (1854-1904), OF 43 NORWOOD GROVE BEVERLEY. SON OF A JOINER AND CABINET MAKER. HIS MOTHER DIED IN 1904. HE SERVED WITH THE LONDON FUSILIERS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/09/1917, AGED 26. COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER.

PRIVATE, FRANK HUNSLEY, 4TH LONDON REGIMENT, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/09/1917, AGED 26. COMMEMORATED AT TYNE COT.

PRIVATE, THOMAS HUNSLEY, EAST YORKS REGIMENT, KILLED IN GREECE ON 16/11/1916, AGED 30. COMMEMORTED ON THE DORIAN MEMORIAL, MACEDONIA.

PRIVATE, ROBERT HUNSLEY, 1/4 NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 15/09/1916, AGED 29. LISTED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

Frank Hunsley was born the 27 September 1890 in Beverley, the youngest son of Robert and Louisa Hunsley. After leaving Beverley Grammar he attended York Training College and graduated as a certified teacher. His first post was as an assistant master at St Barnabas’ School in York. In September 1914 he was appointed assistant master at Minster Boys’ School, Beverley. In April 1915 he was given leave of absence to join the Army. He joined the 4th Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers 56th Division). He was wounded in both thighs on the 2nd November 1916. He died on 26 September 1917 at the Battle of Polygon Wood. He was awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal. Frank is commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium

Two of his brothers, Tom and Robert were also killed in action
