Huntley, William Gilbert

Born Woodhouse, Leeds, 1885. Son of Lockwood Huntley (1859-1933) and Lily Kirk (1863-1901) at 14, St Mary’s Terrace, Beverley, East Yorkshire (1911 Census). Son of a Municipal Librarian.

Employed as a Glass blower. He married Mary Elizabeth Roberts, on 21 Oct 1904, at York, St Saviour, Yorkshire. They lived at 19, Aldwark, York.

Enlisted at York. Posted to France 13 Oct 1915. Served in the 9th King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Died of wounds, on 5 July 1916, aged 31, at No: 11, Stationary Hospital, Rouen.

Buried at St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France. His army effects were left to his widow, Mary Elizabeth. She remarried a soldier, on 3 Nov 1917 and became Mrs Fearney.

He is commemorated on the Beverley WW1 Memorial
