BORN HULL 1893, SON OF ROBERT GASCOIGNE & HARRIET HUTTON – 3 BROOKSIDE VILLAS, ST MARKS STREET. PRIOR TO THE WAR HE WAS A LABOURER AT AT A BLACK LEAD WORKS (HDM 19/11/17) AND A COOK FOR THE WILSON PASSENGER LINE. HE HAD BEEN IN THE BATTALION SINCE ITS FORMATION IN SEPTEMBER 1914 AND HAD SEEN SERVICE IN EGYPT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION IN FRANCE, ON THE 3RD DECEMBER 1917, AGED 23. HIS FATHER SERVED IN THE SAME BATTALION AND HAD THE SAD TASK OF SEEING HIS SON BURIED. HIS FATHER AND FAMILY CONVEYED THEIR BEST RESPECTS TO THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHAPLAIN WHO WAS ONE OF HIS BEST FRIENDS.
SAD TO RELATE HIS MOTHER DIED 48 HOURS BEFORE HE WAS KILLED. JOJN HUTESON’S DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 15TH DECEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
