When John Hawkesmore IRVIN, also known as “Jack”, was born in April 1888 in Hull, Yorkshire. His father, Thomas Massingberd Irvin (1846-1912), was 42 and his mother, Alice Mary Armstrong (1853-1926), was 35. He had one brother and two sisters. He worked as an architect, living at 41, Valley Drive, Harrogate (1911 Census). He married Blanche Edith Perry, in 1914 and lived at Merlewood, Shepperton-on- Thames.
He enlisted at Middlesex, London. Served with the 1/4th Seaforth Highlanders. Killed in action, on 09/05/1915, in Comté, Luxembourg, Belgium, aged 27. Buried in Richebourg-Saint-Vaast, Pas-de-Calais, France.
