BORN HULL 1886.  SON OF SAMUEL SMITH JACKSON (1864-1895) & ELIZA ANN SHIELDS (1866-1937), OF 55 KENT STREET, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL. ELDEST OF EIGHT CHILDREN. EX DOCK LABOURER. MARRIED ON 25/12/1913 AT ST PETER’S CHURCH, HULL. HUSBAND OF EDITH ANNIE EDITH (ADAMS), AT 5 CHARLOTTES TERRACE, BEETON STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THEY HAD TWO DAUGHTERS, VIOLET, BORN 10/04/1914 AND EDNA, BORN 25/11/1916.

ENLISTED ON 05/07/1916. DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY WITH TUBERCULOSIS, ON 18/01/1917. SENT TO THE CITY HOS[PITAL, COTTINGHAM, HULL. HIS COUGH HAD STARTED TWO YEARS IN CIVIL LIFE, BUT WAS AGGRAVATED BY ARMY SERVICE. HE WAS GETTING INCREASINGLY THIN WHEN HE ENLISTED. HE DIED ON 20/09/1917, AGED 31 AND IS BURIED IN HULL.

HIS DEATH REPORTED IN HULL DAILY MAIL, ON  20/09/1918. HIS WIDOW WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 22/11. SHE REMARRIED AND BECAME MRS ADAMS.
