BORN HULL 1897. SON OF HENRY JAMES JEFFREY (1872-1849) & ETHEL JEFFREY (1884-1918), OF 45 LISTER STREET, HULL. AND 69 , GREAT THORNTON STREET, HULL. ONE OF THREE SONS LOST IN THE WAR. EMPLOYED BY MESSRS, C.D. HOLMES, AS A HOUSE PAINTER’S APPRENTICE.
HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITH THE 2ND LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS REPORTED MISSING AND THEN KILLED IN ACTION, ON 21/03/1918, AT THE START OF THE GERMAN SPRING OFFENSIVE. HE WAS 21 YEARS OLD. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE POZIERS MEMORIAL, FRANCE
HIS TWO BROTHERS, WILLIAM JEFFREY (1917) & LAWRENCE JEFFREY (1916) ALSO FELL IN THE WAR. THEIR MOTHER,ETHEL, HAD LOST THREE SONS AND DIED IN 1918. SHE WAS LEFT WITH AMELIA, SUSAN, KATHERINE AND JAMES.
