HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 11/09/1914, AGED 20 YEARS AND 10 MONTHS. EX 1023 12TH EYR. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 6 INCHES TALL, 136 LBS WEIGHT, 36.5 INCH CHEST, DARK BROWN EYES AND HAIR, FAIR COMPLEXION. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 12/06/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 92ND MACHINE GUN COMPANY, ON 29/11/1916. REPORTED MISSING AND KILLED IN ACTION ON 03/05/1917, AGED 24. HE HAD SERVED 2 YEARS AND 235 DAYS. A WATCH WAS RECOVERED FROM HIS BODY, BUT HIS WIDOWED MOTHER WAS TOO ILL TO RECIEVE IT. SHE REQUESTED THAT IT WAS SENT TO HIS SISTER, MRS SELINA RILEY, AT 7, CADOGAN TERRACE, CADOGAN STREET, BOULEVARD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
