BORN HULL 1900. SON OF FRED JOHNSON (1857-1944) & ELEANOR JANE HARDY (1856-1924), AT 242, NEWLAND AVENUE, HULL. (HIS FULL NAME WAS FRED CLIFFORD HARDY JOHNSON) THIS WAS HIS ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS. SON OF A TAILOR. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND FIVE SISTERS, ANNIE, FLORENCE, BEATRICE, KATE AND GRACE. A FORMER LABOURER.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 27/08/1917, AGED 18 AND 1 MONTH. TRAINED AT RUGELEY, AND WILLESBOROUGH. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 02/04/1918. SERVED WITH THE 20TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 25/10/1918, AGED 19. COMMEMORATED AT TYNE COT CEMETERY, BELGIUM.
UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER.
HIS ONLY BROTHER, SERGEANT, FREDERICK WALTER JOHNSON, 13/962, 13TH EYR, WAS KILLED IN NORTH RUSSIA, ON 19/02/1919, AGED 32, WHILE ATTACHED TO THE 237TH TRENCH MORTAR BATTERY.
