Johnson, Harry Vernon

BORN HULL 1888. SON OF JOHN JAMES JOHNSON AND REBECCA VERNON, OF 630 HESSLE ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). A FORMER KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS SOLDIER, WHO HAD SERVED FOR THREE YEARS IN EGYPT, HARRY WAS CALLED UP AT THE START OF THE WAR. HE HAD WORKED IN HULL AS A SHUNTER FOR THE NORTH EASTER RAILWAYS. HARRY WENT TO THE FRONT IN AUGUST 1914 AND WAS WOUNDED IN OCTOBER 1914. AFTER BEING IN HOSPITAL FOR SEVEN MONTHS, HE RETURNED TO THE FRONT IN AUGUST 1915. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 3RD OCTOBER 1915, AGED 27. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS FATHER, JOHN JAMES JOHNSON. THE NEWSPAPERS SAID THAT HE LEFT EMMIE, JIM & ERNEST JOHNSON. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, ON 4TH NOVEMBER 1915. *
