Born Riplinham, 1896. Only son of James and Emma Johnson, of Brookdale Elloughton, Brough, Yorks. He had two older sisters. A native of Riplingham, he worked at Hends Cottage Field House Riplingham. He enlisted at Hull. Served as a Driver and Acting Bomabardier in the Royal Field Artillery, 32nd Ammunition Divisional Column. Died of wounds, on 11/11/1917, aged 21. Unmarried. His army effects were left to his mother, Emma. He is commemorated on the Brantingham ww1 Memorial and the Rowley Village ww1 Memorial, Little Weighton, East Yorkshire. Buried at Dozingham Military Cemetery, Belgium. His grave inscription reads, “GOD BE WITH US TILL WE ALL MEET AGAIN”
