BORN MARYLEBONE, MIDDLESEX, 1885. SON OF RICHARD JOHNSON OF LONDON.
HIS WIFE, ALICE ANN JOHNSON & DAUGHTER, GLADYS, LIVED AT 2, LEO PLACE, CUMBERLAND STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS) AND 16, VICTORIA TERRACE. LORNE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A LABOURER AT THE HULL STEARINE COMPANY, CLEVELAND STREET, WHERE HE WAS KNOWN AS “COCKNEY BILL”.
HE ENLISTED IN AMPTHILL, BEDFORDSHIRE. JOINING THE 1ST BEDFORD REGIMENT. CALLED UP AS A RESERVIST WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE WAS POSTED TO FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE IN AUGUST 1914. HE WAS WOUNDED THREE TIMEs. RETURNING FROM LEAVE IN AUGUST 1917, HE WAS WOUNDED AGAIN AND DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 12/10/1917, AGED 32. HE IS BURIED AT WIMEREAUX MILITARY CEMETERY.
HE LEFT A WIDOW AND ONE CHILD.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 29/10/1917. *
