Jude, Martin Vivian

BORN PONTEFRACT, YORKSHIRE,  1891. SON OF MARTIN & BERTHA JUDE, OF AT 35, HARDY STREET, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR HE TRAINED AT ST JOHN’S COLLEGE YORK. WAS A TEACHER AT NEWLAND AVENUE BOYS SCHOOL AND APPOINTED ASSISTANT MASTER OF HULL’S CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL. HE LEFT FOR CANADA IN 1912 AND RETURNED HOME IN 1915, TO ENLIST. HE RESIDED AT 3, GREEN LANE, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN THE “HULL COMMERCIALS” – 10TH EAST YORKHIRE  BATTALION AND  SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. PROMOTED TO LANC CORPORAL.

WHILE IN FRANCE HE CONTRACTED AN ILLNESS WHICH LED TO HIS DISCHARGE IN JUNE 1916. HE DIED ON 15/12/1916, AGED 25.

HE IS LISTED ON THE CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR AS CANADIAN REGIMENT.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 27TH & 30TH DECEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*

HE IS BURIED IN HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY.
