BORN HULL 1893. HULL PAL. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM & LYDIA KEABLE. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. FIVE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS WHO ALL LIVED AT 112 YORK STREET, HULL. HE WAS JUST 5 FOOT TALL AND A LABOURER BEFORE THE WAR. ENLISTED IN HULL ON 28/12/1914, JOINING THE 11TH EYR (HULL PALS). SERVED IN EGYPT FROM 15/12/1915. SENT TO FRANCE ON 08/03/1916. PROMOTED TO CORPORAL. WOUNDED BY GUN SHOT TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER ON 08/11/1917. INVALIDED BACK TO ENGLAND ON 13/11/1917. SPENT 106 DAYS IN HOSPITAL. DIED OF WOUNDS. HE WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL AFTER HIS DEATH ON 17/06/1919. HIS UNCLE, BENJAMIN KEABLE (DAD’S BROTHER) LIVED AT 99 YORK STREET, HULL AND WAS KILLED IN 1917.
HE IS BURIED AT CAUDRY BRITISH CEMETERY, NORD, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE READS, “NO MORNING DAWNS NO NIGHT RETURNS BUT WE REMEMBER THEE”
