Born Burton-on-Trent 25/02/1866. Son of Fredrick Kent (1835-1901) and Hannah Hoe (1838-1901), of Burton-on-Trent. Both parents died in 1901. Thomas Kent joined the Royal Marine Light Infantry, at Portsmouth, on 13/11/1884. Married in Hull, in 1886. His wife Ann Staveley (1867-1940), lived at 11 Derby Street in 1911 and then 34, Derby Street, Hull.. They had eleven children. He worked as a General Labourer in Hull (1911 Census).
He re-joined the Royal Marines when war began. he was serving on HMS Sirius, when he died, in Hull, on 13/08/1916, aged 50.
His son, Pte, John Robert Kent, 2693, 4th EYR, died of wounds on 05/01/1916, aged 18. He is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery
