BORN HULL 1897. FULL NAME: JOHN WILLIAM KILVINGTON. SON OF MR ROBERT CLARENCE KILVINGTON (1866-1953) & ELIZABETH DEWBERRY (1870-1931), OF 12 BRIDLINGTON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). A FORMER OFFICE BOY AND LABOURER. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND FOUR SISTERS. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS A SINGLE MAN, 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 104 LBS WEIGHT, 34- 36.5 INCH CHEST, GREY EYES, BROWN HAIR, WESLEYAN RELIGION, OF “VERY GOOD” CHARACTER.
ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 07/09/1914. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 27/07/1915. WHILE FETCHING WATER FROM A WELL HE WAS WOUNDED BY GUNSHOT IN THE LEFT LEG AND FIBIA ON 28/12/1915. RETURNED TO ENGLAND ON 21/01/1916. DISCHARGED AS UNFIT ON 27/12/1916, AFTER 321 DAYS IN HOSPITAL. HIS LEG WAS SHORTENED BY TWO INCHES. HE DIED ON 15/07/1917, AGED 20.
