BORN MOOSE JAW, MANITOBA, CANADA 1896. SON LAWRENCE BOWDLER KING & RACHAEL KING, OF,  21, MAY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A RETAIL CHEMIST. EDUCATED AT FOUNTAIN STREET SCHOOL, HULL. EMPLOYED AS A CLERK.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 22/11/1915, AGED 19 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8.5 INCHES TALL, 116 LBS WEIGHT, AND 32 INCH CHEST. POSTED TO THE RESERVES AND 10TH EYR. MOBILISED ON 22/11/1916. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 31/01/1917. ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL WITH TRENCH FEVER. RETURNED TO ENGLAND ON 26/06/1917 AND SENT BACK TO FRANCE, ON 22/03/1918. POSTED TO THE THE 1ST SHERWOOD FORRESTERS, ON 17/06/1918. HE DIED OF WOUNDS ON 29/08/1918, AGED 22. HE SERVED FOR 2 YEARS AND 281 DAYS.

UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS MOTHER, RACHEL. HE LEFT BROTHER GEORGE ERIC KING , AND SISTER, ELSIE MARY KING.

BURIED AT LA TARGETTE BRITISH CEMETERY, NEUVILLE-ST. VAAST, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “ALSO IN MEMORY OF 16215 CO.SGT.MAJ. LAWRENCE LEGGOTT KING, M.G.C. DIED 9TH APR.1917”. THIS WAS HIS BROTHER, WHO LIVED AT  83, CRANBROOK AVENUE, HULL
