BORN TANKERSLEY, YORKS, 06/11/1887. SON OF WILLIAM KIRK (1859-1932) & BETSY HELEN BENNETT (1862-1945), OF CHESTNUT VILLA, NORTH CAVE, BROUGH (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 3, FARNLEY SQUARE, ELLA STREET, HULL. SECOND OF FOUR CHILDREN. HE WORKED AS A COLLIERY CLERK, LIVING AT 2 VERMONT STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED IN THE “HULL COMMERCIALS”, AS PRIVE 10/377, 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE WHERE HE WAS COMMISSIONED INTO THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, SERVING AS A SECOND LIEUTENANT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 28/06/1918, AGED 30.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE  HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL MEMORIAL.

HE IS BURIED AT AVAL WOOD MILITARY CEMETERY, VIEUX-BERQUIN, NORD, FRANCE.
