BORN HULL 1885. SON OF FERDINAND KLEIN (1852-1891) & FANNY ANN MINEDEW (1846-1906), OF 190, BLENHEIM STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS).

HE MARRIED ANNIE HODDER (1880-1953), AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN 1909. THEY HAD FOUR CHILDREN (FERDINAND, GILBERT, DOROTHY AND KENNETH). THEY LIVED AT AND 12, CONVENT LANE, HULL  (WAR PENSION ADDRESS) & 190, BLENHEIM STREET, HULL.

EMPLOYED AS A SCHOOLMASTER AT GLANFORD, BRIGG, LINCOLNSHIRE (1911 CENSUS),  HE ENLISTED AT EALING, MIDDLESEX, ON 01/05/1915. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT, ON 10/07/1915. DESCRIBED IN HIS ARMY RECORDS AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 36 INCH CHEST AND VERY GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

HE SERVED WITH THE 3rd/10th Bn, MIDDLESEX REGIMENT. DIED OF GUNSHOT WOUNDS TO THE ABDOMEN AND LEFT ARM, ON 15/10/1917, AGED 33. HE IS BURIED AT WIMEREAUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “LOOKING FOR THAT BLESSED HOPE”

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW AND FOUR CHILDREN. THEY INCLUDED LETTERS, PHOTOS, SET OF DENTURES, WATCH AND CHAIN, AND PHYSICAL TRAINING CERTIFICATE.
