BORN HULL 1896. SON OF JOHN LANE (1864-1917) & SOPHIA WILSON (1868-1944), OF 3 MORRELL’S BUILDINGS, VILLA PLACE, HULL, WHO LOST 3 SONS DURING THE WAR. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. HE WAS AN ERRAND BOY (1911 CENSUS).

NORMAN LANE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. KILLED IN ACTION ON 11/08/1917, AT YPRES, AGED 21.

BURIED AT BARD COTTAGE CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE READS – PEACE PERFECT PEACE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE HULL GARDENER SOCIETY MEMORIAL AT HULL TRINITY CHURCH WITH HIS BROTHERS.

JAMES LANE (BORDER REGIMENT) , HAROLD LANE (RFA) AND NORMAN LANE, WERE ALL RECORDED ON ST THOMAS CHURCH MEMORIAL, CAMPBELL STREET, WHICH WAS DESTROYED IN WW2. THEY LEFT AN OLDER BROTHER ARTHUR AND BABY SISTER. AGNES.
