BORN NORTH BURTON, YORKSHIRE, 1880. SON OF THOMAS LANGDALE (1850-1928) & JANE ARTLEY (1850-1930), OF 26, CADOGAN STREET, BOULEVARD, HULL. (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS, AND THREE SISTERS. UNMARRIED. HE WORKED AS A RADIATOR FITTER (1911 CENSUS) AND AS A PORTER FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 27/04/1916, AGED 35 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 5 INCHES TALL, 37.5 INCH CHEST SIZE, 150 LBS WEIGHT.
FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 32/613 NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 29/08/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1/5TH YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT. WOUNDED BY GUN SHOT TO THE ABDOMEN, ON 18/09/1916. HE DIED OF WOUNDS THE NEXT DAY, ON 36.
HE IS BURIED AT THE SOMME. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, THOMAS.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD, HULL.
HIS NAME IS ALSO LISTED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, HENRY LANGDALE (1892-1924), SERVED AS 711 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND THEN TRANSFERRED TO THE MACHINE GUN CORPS. HE WAS WOUNDED IN THE MOUTH IN 1917 AND THEN IN THE ABDOMEN IN 1918.
