BORN HULL 1892. SON OF ARTHUR & FLORENCE LARTER, OF 260, ALLIANCE AVENUE AND 9, BELVOIR STREET, HULL. EDUCATED AT THORESBY STREET, COUNCIL SCHOOL. HE SECURED A SCHOLARSHIP AND WON THE KINGS PRIZE IN 1910 AT HULL TECHNICAL COLLEGE. ALSO WON THE FIRST PRIZE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM, FOR TELEPHONE ENGINEERING, AT THE LONDON CITY OF GUILDS. HELD A DIPLOMA IN TELEPHONY AND IN 1913 WAS APPOINTED TO THE WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY, IN ANTWERP.
AT HE OUTBREAK OF WAR. HE ENLISTED AS A PRIVATE IN THE 20TH LONDON REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND SUFFOLK REGIMENT & THEN THE YORKSHIRE REGIMENTS BEFORE BEING PROMOTED. HE RECEIVED HIS COMMISSION IN 1917 AND WAS POSTED TO THE YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE ENDED THE WAR WITH THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS ON 8TH OCTOBER 1918 FOR CAPTURING A GROUP OF ENEMY MACHINE GUNS AND CONSOLIDATING HIS POSITION. HIS FEAT WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 14TH APRIL 1919, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE DIED IN 1923 OF WOUNDS RECEIVED IN THE WAR. HIS PROBATE ADDRESS WAS ‘SUNNYSIDE’, DUESBURY STREET, HULL.
