BORN LOWESTOFT, SUFFOLK 1897. SON OF GEORGE WILLIAM BOTTOMLEY(1874-1959) & CHARLOTTE LEE (1874-1942), OF THIS CWGC ADDRESS. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. A YOUNGER BROTHER, GEORGE, SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVY. BERTIE LEE SERVED AS PRIVATE, 200248 & 1705, WITH 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND HAD BEEN IN FRANCE WITH COLONEL SHAW SINECE 1915. HE WAS WOUNDED TWICE. DIED OF WOUNDS AT TOOTING HOSPITAL, LONDON, ON 26/09/1916. AGED 19. HISARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFTTO HIS MOTHER, LOTTIE. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 28/09/1916.
HE IS BURIED AT HULL (HEDON ROAD) CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “NOT JUST TO-DAY BUT EVERY DAY DEAR SON AND BROTHER WE THINK OF YOU”
