BORN NORTH CAVE, YORKSHIRE, 30/12/1878. SON OF ROBERT WILLIAM LEE (1852- 1922) & HANNAH MARY HICKS (1857-1933), OF NORTH CAVE. SON OF A JOINER. HE HAD SIX BROTHERS AND SIX SISTERS.
WIFE AMY (MARWOOD) LIVED AT 23, ZETLAND STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE WORKED FOR THE HULL CORPORATION AND SERVED 18 YEARS ON HULL CITY TRAMS AS A SIGNALMAN. THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN, ROBERT, DORIS AND ERIC.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 34833, LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE LABOUR CORPS. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 25/10/1917, AGED 37. BURIED AT THE MENIN ROAD SOUTH MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “REST UNTIL THE DAY BREAKS”
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, AMY.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, FRANK LEE, 51654, 21ST MANCHESTER REGIMENT, ENLISTED IN HULL AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, TWO DAYS LATER, ON 27/10/1917, AGED 22.
