BORN HULL 1877. ALLIAS “LEGGOTT”. SON OF FREDERICK PICKERING AND FRANCES ANN PEARSON. AS A 16-YEAR-OLD HE HAD BEEN A PETTY CRIMINAL AND SERVED TIME FOR BREAKING AND ENTERING.

HE MARRIED MAUD CUNNINGHAM AT HULL IN 1896, AGED 19. HUSBAND OF MAGDALEN (MAUD) LEGGOTT, OF 27 PEASE STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS), 8 NORFOLK STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 41 HARLEY STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE JOINED THE 3RD NORTHUMBRIAN ARTILLERY IN ON 21/05/1908. SERVED AS GUNNER, 201. HIS ARMY ADDRESS WAS KING STREET, HULL. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 33.5 INCH CHEST, BROWN EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR. DISCHARGED IN 1912 AFTER 4 YEARS SERVICE. WORKED AS A PACKER AT RECKITT’S.

HE ENLISTED IN MANCHESTER, WHEN WAR BEGAN. SENT TO FRANCE, ON 15/09/1914. SERVED AS RIFLEMAN, 1679, 2ND ROYAL RIFLE BRIGADE. DIED OF WOUNDS. SOLDIERS DIED RECORDS. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 02/02/1915, AGED 38, AT THE 11TH GENERAL HOSPITAL, BOULOGNE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, MAUD, AND DAUGHTER KATE.
