BORN HULL 1892. SON OF WILLIAM LEON GAMBETTA LOVEDAY (1850-1915) AND JENNY BAINES (1856-), OF 13 BEECH GROVE, WELLSTED STREET, HULL. HE HAD ONE SISTER, LAURA, WHO LIVED AT 7 BALMORAL AVENUE, LANSDOWNE STREET, ANLABY ROAD, HULL.
HE MARRIED HIS NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR, IN HULL, ON 08/08/1914 WHEN WAR BEGAN. HIS WIFE KATE JARVIS (1889-1959) AND SON HERBERT (BORN 17/05/1917), LIVED AT 4 VICTORIA AVENUE, ALFONSO STREET AND AT 2 GRANVILLE GROVE, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS). HE WORKED AT HULL PARAGON STATION. A GOODS PORTER FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY.
HE ENLISTED, IN HULL, ON 11/12/1915. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 321287 16TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE WAS SENT TO FRANCE ON 28/06/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 12TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, ON 04/09/1916. WOUNDED BY GUNSHOT TO THE HEAD ON 08/10/1916. HE DIED OF WOUNDS AT ROUEN HOSPITAL, ON 12/10/1916, AGED 25.
HIS WIDOW, KATE MOVED TO 98 WELLSTED STREET, HULL. HE LEFT HER LETTERS, PHOTOS, A BIBLE, SILVER WATCH AND A PIECE OF HEATHER IN HIS ARMY EFFECTS. HE IS BURIED AT ST SEVER MILITARY CEMETERY, ROUEN, FRANCE.
